A Whole New World-- Chapter 3 part 1

Katana whooped up her exhilaration as Aya's arms spread out like eagle wings, soaring above the glowing city lights that they passed over with such swiftness that it made Katana gasp. "You can fly!" Katana shouted over the howling wind in her ears, "You really are a Green Lantern, after all!" Aya didn't even glance at her; she smiled towards the rising moon and answered, "Hang on, Katana! I'm going pell-mell for leather now!" She quickened her flight speed, dodging the numerous flocks of geese and airplanes  that were flying towards them at such a high speed that Aya quickly glanced at Katana and thanked the Guardians that she had not fallen  to her death every time they passed them. Katana marveled at the city lights adorning the city's midnight streets, with the headlights of cars and trucks dotting the streets below them, quickly stealing a glance at the skyscraper of Jason's lab to find his disbelieving stare at her, then his nerdy, yet lovable, laughter at the thought of such a thing as she was experiencing now. She laughed to herself as Aya slowed her pace; "We are nearly there, Miss Katana. Please hang on for a little while longer til we get there," she told her. Katana sighed, then nodded glumly as the sight of the lonely manor lights dimmed into her view. With a soft clunk on the grass, Aya grabbed a hold of Katana's hands, set them to her sides and asked with a gentle smile "Was my flight capacity pleasing enough for you, miss Katana?"
"Yes," Katana replied, "Thanks very much. By the way," Katana added with a scolding glance at Aya but maintained an adroit smile, "Only Alfred says 'Miss Katana.' 'Kat', 'Tatsu', or 'Katana' is okay with me."
Aya nodded. "I should go, if you no longer ask for my assistance."
Katana snapped herself awake at this statement; she remembered that Bruce had scared her off just a couple of hours before, and that Aya was trying to avoid a repeat performance so that she could try to find someone who could help her. "Aya, please", Katana sighed, "Remember what I told you; Bruce is not as scary as--"
"Tatsu," Bruce's voice growled through the doorway; Katana was stuck with the choice of being glad that Bruce was here to be introduced to Aya, or being forced to disagree with Bruce's view of another sidekick to the family. "Why is Aya still here?" he asked angrily, pointing at her as if she were a savage Native American, "I have told her to go home before. Why did you bring her back?" Katana forced a growl out of her throat as she rushed up the stairs of the manor entrance, pointing an accusatory finger at Bruce. "I don't give a damn what you think about Aya!" she snarled with the fury of a panther. "She is alone in this world and there are no villains at this moment in time for Batman to capture. She can give us some straight answers to this predicament, whether you like it or not, and she could be our most valuable asset in this city! Just give her a chance!" Her solid brown eyes blazed with fuming rage.
"Katana is right, Mr. Wayne," Aya added, shielding her  new friend with her straight back and a renewed sense of pride. "I was of no harm to you in the two hours previous, and my intellect can locate the villains that have vanished, save for Magpie, who attacked  Katana when she came to find me, since my arrival. Please, Mr. Wayne. You have no choice."

Chapter 2 part 2

Aya shivered at the sight of Magpie's claws, a stunning onyx in color. She glanced at Katana with a nervous energy in her eyes as Katana nudged her gently. "Stay behind me, Aya. I don't want you to get hurt," she ordered gruffly. "Okey doke, Little Miss Mama Cat," Magpie teased, " But you won't like what I have in store for her. Betcha that little bitch knows where Porky, Tobias and the others are, same as I do. I think I'll just take her precious little memories to add them to my own collection."
"SHUT UP! I WONT LET YOU!" Katana roared, and charged at Magpie, her sword drawn against the poison in her claws; one swipe could be deadly, but Katana was willing to take the risk of being poisoned to save her new 'friend'. Succeeding at cutting one nail clean off, as Magpie howled with rage, she gave a solid left hook, and as Magpie tries to slice her again, Katana blocked the attack and her hands clutched at Magpie's  neck. "If you ever come near or harm Aya again, I will make sure Batman gets to see every inch of you in a body bag. Do you understand?" Katana hissed.
"Y-yes. I-understand." Magpie stuttered as Katana let go of her neck. Magpie ran off, nearly getting run over by two cars as she wailed loudly into the night. After checking to see that no other villains or civilians had witnessed the fight, Katana turned around to face Aya, whose eyes widened with fear and her knees knocked but otherwise maintained her stolid expression. "Aya," Katana asked gently, "you okay?"
"Y-Yes, Katana. I was just a little st-startled that's all. You- You are a noble... warrior," Aya stammered, glancing back at Katana in what the latter believed to be embarrassment; her emerald green face paled a little and her shoulders formed a shrug. "Compliment appreciated, Aya. Lets go home before someone finds us."
"You have walked at least 14.7 miles to find me here. If we should walk the rest of the way, another villain may try to capture us," Aya observed.
"What exactly are you trying to say?" Katana asked, narrowing her eyes at Aya.
"I shall fly you to the manor, if you allow me."
Katana's eyes widened marginally. "Fly?! You can fly now?!" Aya's eyes sparkled with a hidden mischief and smirked. "You'll see."

A Whole New World -- Chapter 2 part 1

The acrid smell of the sewers that announced the arrival of Killer Croc was suddenly gone. Professor Pyg was probably planning an escape at Blackgate by now, but not ready to fully enact the escape yet. Even Anarky was probably at home playing with his little chess set of prophecies at this moment. Still, as Tatsu wandered around aimlessly in search of the mysterious Green Lantern who had shown up at the manor a few hours before, she had to be extremely careful; Magpie, Lady Shiva, heck ANY villain who normally committed their worst crimes at night could spring at her,  clutching the terrified form of the Green Lantern with a gag in their hands, threatening her life and limbs unless she fought them. She scanned the skies for Man-Bat's shadowy figure hovering above her; nothing. She pointed her ears in the direction of Tobias Whale's booming laughter and his thugs pouring beer and scotch for their latest heist. All quiet. She felt the walls around her and keened her ears for the robotic voice of Cypher. He never arrived. This is quite odd, Katana thought, Ever since Aya, if that's actually her name, came along, every villain headed for the hills. Maybe I should ask Jason to explain to me what the hell is going on, the nerdy little man! A synthesized sob echoed from a corner alley. Katana spun her head around and there, huddling in the filthy corner of the alley, covered with rats and the faint odor of a stray dog, was Aya. "Good Ameterasu, Aya! You're OK!" Katana half shouted so as not to alert the villains lurking here, practicing her three fingered bow she found out she had to keep, and putting a hand to Aya's cheek, then lowered her voice and asked curiously "Why has no one  captured you yet?"  Aya heaved in a couple of sobs and Katana brushed her tears away and repeated her question in a soothing, almost motherly voice. "I-I don't know" Aya stammered after a few moments. "Probably because I am an A.I. and can be of little to no use to them. It may also be due to the fact that I was able to evade any assaults they came up with. Either way, I-I am n-not welcome here."
"Why? Because Bruce scared you out of your wits and you thought our commissioner or his daughter would not take you in?" Katana asked, seemingly reading Aya's thoughts. Aya nodded, half surprised at the question.
"Look, Aya," Katana soothed, taking her hand in hers, "I know this place is scary enough with all these villains running around here. But to be afraid of a billionaire who may have some emotional issues? That's just silly. You have to fully understand his little mood swings in order to fully understand him." As she was saying this, a stray cat who had been overhearing the conversation meowed hungrily and hurried over to the duo. Aya nodded, understanding her words. "If he has emotional issues as you have said, then I have nothing to fear," she told Katana.  Katana offered her her hand and Aya stood up, but not before hearing a soft slinkt from right behind Tatsu. The two new friends spun around, and there was Magpie, grinning ear to ear evilly. "Shiny, shiny, Miss Katana. Is this your new pet? Came all this way to get it back? Well, to me, that shiny, shiny robot may be competition for Mr Bats affections. So what's it going to be, runt?"

My thoughts on Lobo #1

Let me say this before you do: This issue was a SUPER thrill. I love how the  artist , Reilly Brown, portrays Lobo. He is portrayed in two ways: at first, we see him as a vengeful, injustice- hating leader, who kills the original Lobo (or Faux-bo if you are particular) in a jealous rage; but at the same time, we see a Lobo who symbolizes a change in society as the old Lobo is rejected. The artist and writers depict this Lobo as a surprising figure:  he was an artist for the emperor back in Czarnia.... or at least that's what the dream tells us, but still... he's a such a great super villain. So basically his "call to adventure' is when Rhialla shows up and gives him his mission: to hunt down eight assassins who are hunting the same target. Of course Rhialla doesn't tell us who the target is or who told them to hunt down the target, but it adds the gritty suspense that we all need in our lives. Lobo's narrations throughout the issue speak of his troubled life and how he is what he is today, as well as giving himself kudos to his fighting skills. And here's another thing: this Lobo has scruples! He may or may not give a damn about what he kills, but at least he thinks before he acts upon his thinking, unlike the old Lobo who kills without mercy (or "fragging" as he used to call it) while still retaining his accent (it's not a DRAWL people). Personally, I'd give him a British accent, cuz it makes him sound smarter than he actually is, and if there were a movie about him, I'd cast Taylor Lautner (kudos to his abs :) ) . This issue won't disapoint and I can't wait for the next issue!

A Whole New World-- Chapter 1 Part 2

If Tatsu ever needed a little something to keep the residents of Wayne manor occupied, chasing down a Green Lantern while wearing nothing but the same jacket you wear on your patrol? Not what she had in mind. In any case, this guest needed the welcoming she needed, even if Bruce was not really going to accept her at first. Tatsu knew that the girl was just on the other side of the immense white cedar doors that guarded the manor so carefully, but Bruce halted her. "Stand down Katana", Bruce cautioned, "This 'Green Lantern' could be hostile, so take every precaution." Tatsu nodded, clutching her sword   and hesitantly, with the guards permission, creaked open the door, where the Green Lantern girl sat shivering in the cold autumn wind. She was about Tatsu's age due to her height, with skeletal green fingers folded over what appeared to be pure silver gloves. Her exposed neck and part of her chest were green, containing the unmistakable symbol of the Green Lanterns, as well as the rest of her face, with two of the most beautiful cerulean eyes Tatsu had ever seen. "You weren't kidding," Tatsu whispered to Alfred, "It is a Green Lantern!" Turning to the girl, kneeling down and taking her hand in hers, she asked "What's your name, Green Lantern?"
The girl timidly looked up at Tatsu's smiling brown eyes, then towards Bruce's dour expression on his face, then to Alfred, and replied softly "It is a pleasure to meet you. You may call me Aya."
"A pretty name for a pretty lady," Alfred muttered to Bruce, who turned his cold blue eyes towards Aya and strode over to her until he was towering over her, which made Aya jump to her feet, which thudded against the grass. "Could you have gone somewhere else to annoy the residents that live there?"
"N-No," Aya stammered, "N-no one else would--- "
"Then go home," Bruce finished, "Because it's late."
"That's not of your concern, Mr Wayne," Aya replied rather coldly. "As of this moment, I am still alive and in need of shelter till someone finds me or kills me again! Don't try to take it--" With a thunderous smack across her face, all of Aya's self-control was gone; she burst into a solemn weeping which reluctantly sent her off. Pointing an accusatory finger at Bruce, Tatsu fumed venomously "What the hell is wrong with you? Aya did not mean any harm to any of us!"
"Tatsu is right," Alfred agreed, "She never laid a finger on anyone. Not even you!"
"It's all in your heads, everyone," Bruce calmed them, "Go home and get some sleep."
"I'll sleep when you're dead," Tatsu hissed, putting on her mask. "I'm going to find her and bring her back to the manor where it is safe. You want to be a miser all your life? Go ahead, do it!! You don't know the meaning of friendship when you see it. So don't remind everyone of that fact!" With that, Tatsu ran off down the manor steps, ignoring Alfred's order to come back. Bruce laid a hand on his shoulder. "Let her go," he told him, his gaze fixed on Tatsu. "Aya, if that's her real name, will be long gone by the time  Tatsu comes back."

A Whole New World-- A "Beware The Batman" and "Green Lantern The Animated Series" crossover

I know it has been a long time since I updated this blog, but I'll make it up to you; here is my first crossover story featuring my two favorite characters: Katana  from "Beware the Batman" and Aya from "Green Lantern The Animated series".

The soreness of her arms grew intense. Honestly, Bruce had overworked Tatsu over the last week. Clad in only a creamy white undershirt grown pungent with overuse and dark sweatpants tightening around her ankles, Tatsu wondered how much more training she could take before she passed out for good. Even a date with Jason would have been better than this! Besides, Tatsu thought, smiling a little now as she rubbed her sore left arm, he's odd, but at least he is not like the villains that try to capture me. He at least calms the stress in my life. With a sigh, Tatsu ceased rubbing her left arm and started to rub her right. "Just breathe", she muttered, seemingly to her arms. "Remember, Bruce is thick-headed and unpredictable for one thing. For another, he is still weak and vulnerable. With a few more months, you'll see how strong he is. You'll see..." An ascending footfall jerked Tatsu awake from her scheming, followed by a sharp, staccato tap-tap-tap  on her door. Assuming it was Bruce, Tatsu stopped rubbing her arm and groaned, "Will you leave me the hell alone, Bruce?!", before swinging open the door. Surprisingly, it was Alfred, her godfather and Bruce's butler, who was on the other side of the door. He was a strapping man despite his old age, with grey eyes and a sharp, curving nose like an old falcon. His height was of over 6 feet and his broad shoulders made him seem a bit taller than he actually was. He was dressed in his usual butler attire: Black suit and tie with white cuffs, black pants with shoes to match. Tatsu always teased him about going for something brighter to wear, but she loved the outfit just the same. However, there was a different glow in his eyes as Tatsu stared at him blankly; there was a glow of excited fear.
"Tatsu, come down at once!" Alfred cried in a rush, forcing Tatsu to snap out of her daze and offer him a spot on her bed. Alfred accepted the offer but made no inclination to sit down. "Major, relax," Tatsu coaxed gently, "You've probably had a nightmare or something. Go to bed."
"Tatsu, I assure you," Alfred continued, his voice rising, "what I saw on the watch was no dream. I found a girl on our doorstep!"
"Does Bruce know about this?"
"I tried to tell him but he told me the same thing," Alfred replied, "the girl was about your age, I think ,and she had the most beautiful blue eyes you've ever seen. The peculiar thing I noticed about her: Her skin was green! Green as an emerald! We have a Green Lantern in our house!"
In stunned silence, Tatsu processed what she had just heard; to have a guest in the Manor at all was unusual, but a Green Lantern? Now that was something Tatsu had to see to believe. "If she is a Green Lantern like you said", Tatsu noted, ditching the rancid undershirt quickly for a new one, "then let's go see what she really looks like before Bruce judges her presence." Alfred nodded his reply and hurried out the door and went to tell Bruce exactly what he saw. Putting on her flat boots, knee-high at the height, was already tricky if she weren't rushing about like a hurricane making landfall towards the entrance. Now it was harder than ever for Tatsu to hurry up and meet Alfred and a reluctant Bruce Wayne at the door. Her sword strapped to her back was only complicating matters, for every time she sped up her run, the sword would drop to the floor and Tatsu, cursing under her breath in Japanese, rushed to pick it up before Bruce could yell at her. What is the big deal with a Green Lantern, anyway? Tatsu thought, Aren't they supposed to be on Oa, where they belong? Unless... the girl somehow had escaped.
